Advancement
Rank advancement and recognition are important parts of our troop’s Scouting program. We encourage achievement of the First Class rank within eighteen months to two years for most Scouts. The timeline for attaining the Star, Life, and Eagle ranks is up to each Scout. These ranks are achieved with time, experience, personal drive, and ambition. We frequently have 6-8 scouts achieving Eagle Rank in a given year.
Ultimately, we hope each Scout will earn the rank of Eagle Scout during his scouting career at Troop 86, but we believe that every boy who passes through our program will leave having grown and benefited from the experience.
Our scouts earn merit badges within the troop, at summer camp and also from merit badge universities (MBUs) two or three times each year.
We have a formal “Board of Review” process for each rank advancement and at least four times a year we hold a Court of Honor, where patches for rank advancements and leadership positions; merit badges; and other awards are formally presented.
